Biography of Champagne Patrice Guay

It all started in 1930, my grandfather Henri JOLY and his brother-in-law Alfred GODINAT set up a family with a 4000 kg press, vinified their champagne, selling it with difficulty at that time. Also in Festigny , it was in 1947 that my grandfather bought a farm that belonged to the Benedictine monks of the Abbey of Hautvillers in the 17th century, governed by the famous monk Dom Pérignon. 70 years later, winemaker for 5 generations , in 2000 we set up a 4000 kg press, a vat room in accordance with AOC Champagne standards. In order to meet the quality requirements of pressing, vinification and marketing of our various Champagne cuvées under the “Patrice GUAY” and “GUAY-QUIGNOT” brands, a second press will consolidate our facilities in 2005. Today, the exploitation represents 7 hectares of vines in property of which 70% of Meunier, 5% of Pinot Noir and 25% of Chardonnay Blanc. Our 19-year-old son, Thomas, is continuing his studies in viticulture and oenology in order to take over the operation. A single terroir is an identity. We can make a blend but in mono-terroir. It is rare to look at his vines from his estate. Have you ever seen clover in the vines? Biodiversity is life and clover is luck. So that luck is with you, as with us, always have a bottle available.
